Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman and illustrated by Caroline Binch, is about an African American girl named Grace. She loved to listen to stories and then act them out. Her class was going to be putting on a play. Grace wanted to play "Peter Pan." She was made fun of because it was a boys part and he wasn't black. Grace told her mother and grandmother, they cheered her up and told her she can do anything she wants to if she puts her mind to it. At the auditions Grace did a wonderful job of playing Peter Pan and got the part. Her classmates were amazed at how good she was. I like this story because it showed resiliency and how you can do anything you can put your mind to. It sends a good message.

A Fine St. Patrick's Day

A Fine St. Patrick's Day by Susan Wojciechowski and illustrated by Tom Curry is a tale of two rival towns. During St. Patrick's Day they decorate their towns to the best they can and at the end of the day the towns are judged. The one town, Tralah, always beets the other town, Tralee. But this year is different. It's a great book to get the children into the holiday spirit.

No, David!

No, David! is written and illustrated by David Shannon. This book is about a little boy who does everything he is not suppose to do and his mother is always saying "No, David!" And in the end his mother tells him that yes she does love him. This book was a great way to show that no matter what you do your mother will still love you.

The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear

I strongly recommend The Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood. This book is for ages 4 to 8 years old. I remember my mom reading me this book almost every night when I was younger. We read it together and know the book by heart. this book was about a mouse that found a big red ripe strawberry and he was afraid that the bear would steal it from him. The little mouse tried everything he could to keep it from the mouse. In the end he shares the red ripe strawberry with the reader. It a short book but a very cute story. The pictures are wonderful. Hope you enjoy!
